Barrel, cabin, and hybrid outdoor saunas — built for year-round use.

An outdoor sauna is a permanent addition to how you recover, unwind, and take care of your body. The right one will still be standing 20 years from now, through every season. The wrong one warps, underheats, or sits unused because it never matched how you actually live. We carry barrel, cabin, cube, and hybrid outdoor saunas from SaunaLife, Golden Designs, Sunray, and Finnmark — so you can compare styles, sizes, and heating systems without switching stores.

  • Built for all climates - Cedar, Nordic spruce, and thermowood construction handles freeze-thaw cycles, humidity, and UV exposure. Use it in January as comfortably as July.
  • 2 to 8 person options - From compact 2-person barrel saunas for daily solo use, to 8-person garden cabin models designed for families and regular group sessions.
  • Your choice of heating - Electric Harvia heaters for convenience, wood-burning for off-grid authenticity, infrared for lower operating cost, or hybrid for maximum flexibility.
  • DIY-ready kits - Most barrel and cabin models ship as pre-cut kits with tongue-and-groove assembly. Two people can typically complete a 4-person barrel in a weekend.

Three Main Styles:

  • Barrel saunas - Cylindrical design heats up faster and uses less energy than a same-capacity cabin. Best for backyards where footprint and assembly speed matter. 2–6 person options.
  • Cabin & garden saunas - Vertical walls give you more usable bench space and easier layout customization. Better for permanent installs, larger groups, or adding a changing room porch.
  • Hybrid & combination - Run traditional steam, infrared, or both simultaneously. Golden Designs and Finnmark hybrid models give you full flexibility without buying two separate units.

Frequently Asked Questions

Outdoor Saunas

What types of outdoor saunas are available?

Three main styles.

  • Barrel saunas are cylindrical, heat up fast, and suit most backyards — the most popular choice.
  • Cabin saunas offer more interior space and layout flexibility, closer to a small outbuilding.
  • Hybrid and combination saunas let you run traditional steam, infrared, or both from the same unit.

What wood should I look for in an outdoor sauna?

Western red cedar is the benchmark — naturally antimicrobial, rot-resistant, and aromatic. Nordic spruce and thermowood (heat-treated timber) are strong alternatives that hold up well in wet or variable climates. Avoid untreated hemlock for fully exposed outdoor installs.

Do outdoor saunas need a dedicated electrical circuit?

Most do. Standard 6kW heaters require a 240V 40–60A dedicated circuit installed by a licensed electrician — budget $400–$1,500 for the electrical work on top of the sauna cost. Some smaller 2-person models run on 120V and can plug into a standard outlet.

Can outdoor saunas be used year-round, including in snow?

Yes — that's one of their main advantages over indoor models. Quality outdoor saunas are built specifically for weather exposure. Cedar and thermowood construction handles freeze-thaw cycles well. A fitted cover extends the life of the exterior finish and is worth the investment.

What size outdoor sauna do I need?

A 2–3 person model works well for individuals or couples who want daily use. A 4–6 person barrel or cabin is the most popular choice for households — it gives flexibility without a footprint that's hard to site. Groups or families who want to entertain should look at 6-person cabin or garden-series models.
